Legacy → AI-ready Modernization

Unlock new capabilities without losing the business knowledge inside your existing software. We prepare established systems for AI through targeted, testable engineering changes.

Overview

An AI-ready system provides trustworthy information, controlled access to business operations and enough visibility to diagnose what happened. Legacy modernization creates those foundations where they are missing. The starting point is the business capability you want to enable, not a requirement to rebuild everything.

Years of business rules may be encoded in scheduled jobs, database procedures and manual workarounds. A new AI layer cannot resolve ambiguous ownership or unreliable records on its own. We trace the dependencies that matter to the chosen use case and separate genuine modernization needs from changes that would add cost without enabling the outcome.

Where this can help

Illustrative applications, not claims about completed client projects.

An established .NET application

Identify a useful capability, document its behavior and create an integration boundary. Selected code can evolve while other parts remain in place, subject to compatibility and operational constraints.

A system with no usable business API

Assess supported extension points and introduce a controlled interface where feasible. The interface exposes business intent instead of allowing an agent to manipulate internal tables.

Information spread across older systems

Clarify identifiers, source ownership and synchronization before introducing intelligent assistance. A documented data contract gives both the application and the AI feature a consistent interpretation of the record.

What we can deliver

Readiness findings
Dependencies, integration barriers, data issues and risks affecting the target AI use case.
Sequenced roadmap
A proposed order of changes with prerequisites and acceptance criteria for each stage.
First modernization increment
An agreed interface, adapter or component that removes a concrete blocker.
Transition documentation
Compatibility checks, data reconciliation and recovery considerations for the selected change.

Engineering considerations

An adapter can translate between old and new representations while keeping each side’s rules explicit. Where requests can be routed through a suitable boundary, functionality may be replaced incrementally using a Strangler Fig approach. Coexistence still creates engineering work: shared data, duplicate events, versioned contracts and rollback behavior need attention. We establish checks around existing behavior before altering a critical path.

Working with EU and US teams

For an EU or US enterprise, modernization also needs to fit procurement and operational change procedures. We organize the proposed delivery around reviewable increments: architecture decisions, interface ownership, test evidence and release responsibilities. Deployment windows and meeting overlap are agreed with the system owners. If your program has data location or third-party access restrictions, those become explicit constraints in the roadmap.

A practical first engagement

Begin with a readiness assessment linked to one desired AI capability. The first increment should eliminate a real obstacle, such as inaccessible information or an undocumented transaction interface. Verify it against current behavior before attaching an AI feature. A useful checkpoint can conclude that a deterministic integration is sufficient or that data remediation should come first. This keeps AI adoption from becoming an unnecessary platform replacement.

Evidence for the next decision

Capability enabled
Which previously blocked operation or data source is now safely available?
Compatibility
Does the established business process still behave as expected?
Change control
Can the team deploy, diagnose and recover the increment under agreed conditions?

Questions about this service

Does AI adoption require cloud migration?

No universal rule requires it. The use case may be supported by an API or a separate integration component. Hosting choices depend on dependencies, deployment constraints and the selected AI service.

Can you assess a system with limited documentation?

Yes, but discovery must account for the missing information. Access to maintainers, representative environments and observable behavior helps establish what can be verified and what remains uncertain.

How do you decide between an adapter and a rewrite?

We compare the useful capability each option enables, implementation and operating cost, supportability and transition risk. A rewrite is justified only when the chosen boundary cannot be maintained acceptably.

Will the existing system remain available?

Availability requirements are established before implementation. Some changes can coexist with the old system; others need a maintenance window. The plan must state switching and recovery conditions rather than promise universal zero downtime.

What is delivered by a readiness assessment?

A focused set of findings, dependencies and recommended next increments for the chosen use case. Its depth depends on system access and agreed scope; it is not a certification or an automatic approval for production AI.
